NUP Supporters Clean Up Ssentema Ahead of Bobi's Visit
National Unity Platform supporters in Busiro North have carried out a community clean-up exercise in Ssentema ahead of a scheduled visit by party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, even as party leaders raise concerns over alleged arrests, threats, and intimidation of their members.

Members of the National Unity Platform in Busiro North, Wakiso District, have conducted a community clean-up exercise in Ssentema Town and at the Ssaza playground in preparation for the expected visit of party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, scheduled for tomorrow.

The exercise was led by Busiro North parliamentary aspirant Ronald Ssemaganda together with Kakiri Municipality Mayor Moses Bisaso.

The leaders said the initiative was intended to ensure that Kyagulanyi finds the area clean, organised, and welcoming upon arrival.

“We want our president to come and find Ssentema clean and welcoming. This is our responsibility as leaders and supporters,” Ssemaganda said.

According to the organisers, all logistical arrangements for the visit have been finalised, including coordination with security agencies regarding Kyagulanyi’s movements within the area.

“We have put everything in place and agreed with security on how our president will move. A few hours after his arrival, he will proceed to Busiro South,” Ssemaganda explained.

He, however, appealed to security agencies to honour the agreements reached during preparatory meetings in order to avoid unnecessary tension during the visit.

“We ask the security teams to stick to what was agreed upon so that we avoid any situation that could lead to confrontation,” he added.

Despite the preparations, some NUP members expressed concern over what they described as growing intimidation and arrests targeting party supporters in the area.

Several members reported receiving threatening phone calls warning them against participating in party activities, with some saying they had gone into hiding for fear of arrest.

“There are people calling our supporters and threatening them. Some of our members are now in hiding,” one party mobiliser said.

Tensions were further heightened following the arrest of George Bush Kalungi, the Busiro Kunga chairperson, a development NUP leaders strongly condemned.

Kakiri Municipality Mayor Moses Bisaso alleged that there was a deliberate plan to arrest and imprison NUP members ahead of Kyagulanyi’s visit.

“There is a clear scheme to have our people locked up. I urge our supporters to be very cautious in the coming days so that they do not give anyone an excuse to frame them with charges,” Bisaso warned.

The leaders concluded by calling on residents of Busiro to turn up in large numbers at Ssentema playground to welcome Kyagulanyi, who is expected to arrive at around 10:00 a.m. before proceeding to Busiro South.

“This is a peaceful mobilisation. We invite all people of Busiro to come and receive our president peacefully and in big numbers,” Ssemaganda said.
